For graduation from my Master’s program in 2008, Andrew gave me the surprise of a lifetime: a brand new Canon XSi DSLR camera!  I was shocked into tears at first.  This may just be the best surprise I have ever experienced!  I had no idea he was even thinking about getting me anything to celebrate my graduation.  Andrew has since recalled the serious amount of trouble he went through to secretly obtain this camera without my knowledge that the model had even existed yet.

I still use this beautiful marvel of technology today, three years later, and I still love it.  I am so thankful to Andrew for giving it to me!

Surprise! It's a Canon XSi!

Sometimes I do funny things with my camera. I enjoy experimenting with random lighting and ways to make a scene look unnatural.

This shot was created by shutting off all the lights in the room, and projecting the word “alien” onto a Puffkin using a laptop and a projector.

It almost appears to be photoshopped given the crazy nature of the image, but it’s not.  That’s one of the things I love about it most.  Other than cropping, there’s no post-production.

Pretty neat, eh?
