A few months ago, my friend Leisa and her husband Cuinn gave me a 3D film camera with quad lenses. I had some success with it although scanning in the negatives and aligning the images gave me quite a bit of trouble. I loved the concept of 3D or stereographic photography, but didn’t see a way to truly capture it as an art.
That was until about two weeks ago, when Andrew found a link to Loreo Products. They offer a 3D lens for digital camera models. Digital? Really? Those exist? You bet they do!!!
Today, I received my very own Loreo 3D Lens in a Cap from Loreo Asia in Hong Kong. It’s a 3D lens which takes dual images on a single frame with a digital camera. I’ve been looking forward to it for about two weeks now, and finally had a chance to test it out for myself. I’m very impressed with the quality so far. It takes some getting used to, because it’s a manual focus lens and there is no preview or easy way to determine the focus. However, I find that even most photos that are out of focus look good with the 3D viewer.
I’ve started a gallery of the decent 3D images which you can see by clicking here. Below is one of my favorites.

If you don’t have a 3D viewer, just stare at the image and cross your eyes to focus on a third image in the middle. You’ll see the 3D quality pop right off the monitor! Special thanks go out to the guys at the skate park who let me snap away this evening.
Rest assured that I will continue to test the abilities of this awesome new toy. Check the gallery for new pictures as they become available. You can also check out the original blog post of my trials with the quad-lens film camera here.
