Week #20 – Fame – Tell us about any local brushes with fame. Were you ever in the newspaper? Why? You may also describe any press mentions of your family members.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if as a genealogist, you discovered an archive that your ancestor had written detailing every single time she was featured in the newspaper throughout her life?  Well descendents, this is your lucky day.  I hope someday this information is useful to my nieces, nephew, my little brother and their families.

My mother Diane Marie (Dreffs, Cole) Kane has been in the newspaper at least four times.

My grandfather, her father Walter Anthony Dreffs, was also published in the newspaper – Caught in the Act! He was busted for underage drinking and gambling during Prohibition.  Check out my blog entry with the full text of the article.  The article was published on January 13, 1920 in The Saginaw News.

As far as meeting celebrities:

I shook hands with Rod Stewart when I sat front row at his concert (February 1, 1992)

I met and talked with Weird Al Yankovic at Botcon 2009, a Transformers convention, during the Party at Paramount (May 30, 2009)

And there you have it!

I think that just about covered every brush with fame I’ve ever had.  I hope to someday in the future publish more of my photography around the world.

I hope this post inspires you to do some documenting like this for your family’s future genealogists.
