Baby Lucky
On this day three years ago, we brought home a little “black” kitten and named him Lucky. It’s a bit of a misnomer, because we’re definitely the lucky ones. He is by far the cutest, sweetest most lovable kitty I’ve ever been around.
Lucky loves his belly rubbed and he purrs constantly when we pet him. He doesn’t cause any trouble and loves us unconditionally. Although he’s a bit of a scaredy cat (he runs away from his own shadow), once he feels comfortable around you he won’t let you off the hook for some belly rubs.
One rare fact about Lucky is that he’s not actually black. When he lays out in full sunlight, he shows of his gleeming dark chocolate brown fur. When he does get scared he puffs his fur up and steps backwards sideways, just like a black cat would!
We are so lucky to have him in our lives!

I think many black cats are not truly black. Our First Cat, Minnie, was black. Until she laid down in the sunshine. Then you could see her dark chocolate brown undercoat, and the faint stripes on her tail.
Max, the current black cat, appears to be truly black, except for his tuxedo spots…and a couple of white hairs I keep trying to brush off, thinking they are dust.
Oh that’s too cute. Phred is adorable! It’s funny that you keep thinking his white hairs are dust. Lucky is solid “black” except for his fangs. He likes to stick his tongue out when we’re petting his belly so he has this tiny speck of pink and two white strips for fangs. It’s hilarious!
